How did you develop your love for travel?

I’ve always had a love and curiosity for different cultures and different traditions.  I grew up reading and hearing about faraway places and had a natural curiosity about them.  Once I had an opportunity to travel to new locations, I have to say that I was hooked.

How would you describe your travel style?  What are your favorite ways to travel to new places?

My husband and I prefer to travel in a more customized way that allows us time to explore, experience local traditions, and to meet the local people.  We seek to be economical about our travels, and tend to stay away from what we jokingly call “traveling in herds”.   Once we’ve decided on a location to visit I typically do as much research as I can find time to do, learning about the locales, restaurants, and sights to be seen.  We travel with a somewhat defined plan in mind, with some activities booked in advance, but always allow for time to explore and time to just chill.

What is the most important thing that you’ve learned from your travels so far?

I would have to say that learning to value the cultural and traditional differences that we’ve found in many of the locations has been one of the most valuable things that I’ve learned.  Experiencing new ways of life and traditions that are strong in other countries or regions has help us to understand how truly alike we all are.

What do you do to try to keep the cost of travel reasonable?

There are many things that you can to do travel economically.  It’s actually very feasible to travel to many places, even if you are on a limited budget.  Planning ahead, booking early, being flexible about travel dates and times, and avoiding the high cost tourist attractions are all options that can be used to help stretch your travel budget.  I will be posting many ideas on economical travel, so keep an eye on the blog.

Why did you decide to start your blog?

I truly believe that traveling and experiencing the world up close and personal is important, not only for my sense of adventure, but also to help me grow my understanding of the people that we share this Earth with.  Traveling, breaking bread together, and experiencing the traditions in other lands reduces the unknown and increases acceptance and harmony.  I started Wandering Waze with the intention of sharing what I have learned and with hope that others will be similarly inspired.

What has been your favorite location that you’ve visited?

That is a difficult, if not impossible, question to answer.  Each and every location has something unique to offer, new sights to see, and new people to meet.  Each trip has helped my husband and I create new memories together, with family or with friends.  We’ve also made new friends along the way, with people that we would likely have never met otherwise.  It’s nearly impossible to find a favorite among all of the places that we’ve had the good fortune to visit.
